BIS Meguro’s French Experience at the French Institute

Exploring Global Cultures at BIS Meguro: Our Country Day Journey

At BIS Meguro, we host Country Day every three months to broaden our students’ global awareness. Over this period, students immerse themselves in the geography, language, cuisine, traditions, and culture of a featured country. We also encourage meaningful comparisons between the highlighted country and Japan or other regions to foster a deeper understanding of the world.

Our dedicated teaching team invests time in thorough research to ensure we provide students with accurate, enriching information. In addition to classroom learning, students engage in vibrant performances, including songs and dances reflective of the country’s culture. Older students often take on more challenging roles, such as delivering presentations.

A Focus on France: October to December 2024

Last term, our students explored the beauty and culture of France. The learning journey culminated in a festive French Christmas Party held on December 21.

A Memorable Visit to Institut Français de Tokyo

On February 8th, 2025 our students and their parents visited the Institut Français de Tokyo. There, they learned about French celebrations and traditions through an engaging session presented by the Institute’s staff.

Our older students also challenged themselves by serving as MCs for the event, honing their public speaking skills.

The children were delighted by a storytelling session featuring “T’choupi aime la galette” (“T’choupi Likes Galette”), read in French with Japanese translation. This immersive experience provided valuable exposure to a foreign language at an early age.

Showcasing Talent and Building Confidence

The students proudly showcased their hard work by performing French songs and dances for both their parents and the Institute’s staff. While some children initially felt shy, they gradually regained confidence, shining brightly by the end of their performances.

A Taste of France – “La Chandeleur”

After the performances, families enjoyed a delightful food-tasting session featuring French banana chocolate crepes (La Chandeleur) and a selection of non-alcoholic and alcoholic wines.

Both parents and children appeared to thoroughly enjoy the event, creating lasting memories and strengthening family bonds.

We sincerely hope this experience will be cherished by all who attended and look forward to continuing to provide meaningful opportunities for cultural exploration and growth.
