A Day of Learning, Feeling, and Sharing Sudan

On June 18th, Beyondia International School Meguro held Sudan Day—a special event marking the culmination of nearly three months of inquiry-based learning about the country of Sudan.
Throughout this journey, our students explored Sudan through various perspectives, and on this day, they proudly expressed their knowledge and insights using their own words and bodies.

🌟 Penguin & Dolphin Classes (1–2 Years Old)

The youngest students performed an adorable dance to the Sudanese children’s song “Small.”
For some, it was their first time standing in front of an audience. Despite a bit of nervousness, they participated with great effort, making this a valuable experience that helped foster their self-confidence and self-expression.

🐳 Orca 1 Class (3 Years Old)

The three-year-olds showcased an energetic “Animal Dance” inspired by Sudanese rhythms.
Using guffa, a traditional Sudanese instrument, they joyfully danced while keeping the beat. Their performance reflected growing interest in other cultures and a blossoming ability to express themselves.

🐜 Orca 2 Class (4 Years Old)

The four-year-olds presented the life cycles of desert creatures found in Sudan.
From ants to camels and scorpions, the students shared what they had learned in English, demonstrating not only their inquiry skills but also the confidence they’ve developed through their exploration.

🎤 Orca 3 Class (5 Years Old)

The five-year-olds used their experience from visiting the Sudanese Embassy to inform their presentations.
They sang the national anthem of Sudan and gave confident presentations on the country’s symbols, food, and culture. Their poised performance served as an inspiration for the younger students, showing how much they have grown.

🍽️ Taste of Culture & Art Expression

In the afternoon, all students had the opportunity to try falafel, a popular Sudanese snack.

It was a wonderful chance to taste something new and experience another culture through food.

Sudan Day was a truly meaningful experience where the children had the opportunity to learn, feel, and share.
We look forward to continuing to nurture international-mindedness and respect for diverse cultures and values in our learning community.
