Inquiry Through Real-World Experiences
This summer, BEYONDIA International School Meguro hosted a four-day Summer Camp themed “KIDS EXPO”. Through hands-on experiences with topics like the SDGs, the future, global cultures, and the water cycle—subjects that are not usually encountered in everyday life, our young explorers embarked on an exciting journey of inquiry.
Day 1: Tech Pavilion “Can Trash Turn into Technology?”
The children took on the challenge of building robots that could collect and carry trash.
As they coded the robots themselves, they reflected on questions like “Why is recycling important?” and “What can we do to help?”
To end the day, they up-cycled plastic bottle caps into one-of-a-kind original keychains.
It was a day full of creativity and action, encouraging the children to think about environmental issues close to home.
Day 2: Green Pavilion “Tracing the Journey of Water”
On Day 2, we visited the Tokyo Water Science Museum.
Guided by questions like “Where does water come from?” and “How does it reach our homes?”, the children explored water resources and infrastructure through experiments and interactive exhibits.
Back at school, they created their own water filters using sand and pebbles, and explored color-mixing and scent changes through sensory-based flower water play.
It was a day of discovery using both science and the senses!
Day 3: Food Pavilion “Tasting the World”
We visited JICA Global Plaza in Ichigaya, where children tried out different dishes from Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
They observed similarities and differences in global food cultures and reflected on how food connects people across the world.
Back at school, they created a “World Food Map” by linking each cuisine to its country on a world map that they made from scratch themselves.
It was a flavorful and eye-opening day of international learning!!
Day 4: Future Pavilion “To My Future Self”
On the final day, we headed to the Miraikan (National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation), where children learned about space, AI, and robotics—technologies that may shape their future.
After returning to school, they imagined their lives 30 years from now and created their own “Passport to the Future”, filled with dreams and hopes.
It was a fitting finale to our expo journey, filled with inspiration and forward-looking imagination.
The theme for July’s Summer Camp was “EXPO”, and through a wide range of activities, the children learned about the future and the world’s innovations in fun, engaging ways.
>>Coming up in August: “CURIOSITY CAMP”!
We’ll explore digital art, experiment with mysterious eggs, observe insects, and learn all about summer around the world!
Our August programs are designed to spark the children’s natural “Why?” and “How?” questions—so stay tuned for more exciting adventures!
