Fun Discoveries at BIS Meguro’s August Summer Camp

This August, our Summer Camp was filled with many exciting discoveries. Not only our current students but also alumni joined, creating lively, smile-filled days. The children took on themed activities and gained a wide range of experiences. We hope these summer memories will stay with them for a long time.

Day 1 – Tuesday, August 12: Digital Art Day

After creating mandala art on the iPad, the children designed and drew their favorite things, then printed them onto bags to complete their very own one-of-a-kind artwork.
Through exploring color combinations and inventing patterns, their imagination and creativity blossomed. The experience of seeing their own ideas come to life gave the children a strong sense of pride and confidence.

Day 2 – Wednesday, August 13: Egg Science

This day focused on the wonders of eggs. The children colored eggs to make bouncy balls and tried walking on eggs to test, “Can an egg really not break?” Eggs don’t break easily because their round shape distributes force. Surrounded by surprises and discoveries, the children nurtured their curiosity, observation skills, and interest in science by asking “Why?” and exploring answers.

Day 3 – Thursday, August 14: Parasite Museum & Insect Science

We visited the Meguro Parasite Museum to learn about the lives of parasites and mosquitoes around the world. The children discovered that some mosquitoes are poisonous and that only female mosquitoes suck blood. In the afternoon, they researched “mosquito-repelling scents” and created their own original insect-repellent sprays. It was a day full of learning about the wonders of nature and living things.

Day 4 – Friday, August 15: World Summer Festival

This day was themed “Summer Around the World,” exploring celebrations in Cabo Verde, Hawaii, and Canada. The children used recycled materials to express each country’s festivals and even organized their own mini-festival. They created play money, and friends from Afterschool and Preschool joined in, making it a lively summer day.

At the end, each child gave a short presentation, sharing “This is what I learned!”. They enjoyed discovering festivals and cultures from around the world. Through presenting in their own words, the children developed confidence and expressive skills, while naturally broadening their understanding of other cultures and fostering an international perspective.
