Beyondia 3-School Joint Camp (Kindergarten Senior Class) Overnight Learning at Yatsugatake
The senior class of Beyondia went on an overnight trip together with two other Beyondia schools!
The destination was the beautiful, nature-filled Yatsugatake.
It was a two-day experience full of discovery and curiosity, deeply connected to IB learning principles.
Day 1: Exploration in Nature
The first destination was Panorama Ski Resort. After taking a gondola up the mountain, the children were greeted with a breathtaking view.
As they walked through nature, they made many discoveries using all five senses. A particularly memorable scene was how they collected fallen leaves for composting.
After lunch, they joined a composting activity.
They learned how to separate their used lunchboxes and spoons to return them to nature.
One child exclaimed with interest, “It doesn’t become trash—it turns into soil!”
It was a moment where awareness about the environment began to bloom.
That night, they had exercise time with a parachute activity led by instructors from Rec Sports!
All the Beyondia friends worked together in rhythm, ending the day with big smiles and laughter.
Day 2: Inquiry into Food and Nature
The second day focused on learning about food.
The children visited a farm where they had the chance to harvest asparagus themselves!
Although it rained, the hands-on experience of touching the soil and picking vegetables helped them develop a new appreciation:
“Food is amazing,” one said, and many expressed, “We want to take care of it.”
On the bus ride home, the children fell asleep while chatting about their memories, peacefully drifting off into dreamland.
Over these two days, the children spent time freely in nature and engaged in many of the IB learner profile traits:
- Taking initiative (agency)
- Collaborating with friends (social skills)
- Trying new things (courage)
The Beyondia children returned just a little more confident and a little more resilient.
In their hearts, precious memories and a growing sense of self-belief are quietly taking root.
