On May 29, the children of Orca 3 visited the Embassy of Sudan.
Upon arrival, the children greeted the embassy staff in Arabic with “As-salāmu ʿalaykum” (“Hello”), a gesture that pleasantly surprised everyone at the embassy.
The Chargé d’Affaires gave an engaging presentation about Sudan. The children were full of curiosity and eagerly responded to questions in a fun, quiz-style format. They learned about Sudan’s geography, wildlife, sports, local products, and the country’s rich cultural and ethnic diversity. The children also had the chance to listen to songs popular among Sudanese children, including lullabies and educational songs that promote environmental awareness, such as preventing deforestation.
After the presentation, Orca 3 performed the Sudanese national anthem. The embassy staff were deeply impressed and moved by the children’s effort to memorize and sing it in Arabic. It was a touching moment, with the Chargé d’Affaires even humming along.
The children then presented what they had learned about Sudan during their Country Study, using handmade posters. Their confident and enthusiastic presentations were a clear sign of their growth and learning.
To wrap up the visit, the children were invited to try authentic Sudanese cuisine. They sampled hibiscus tea, traditional snacks, falafel, and more. It was heartwarming to see their eyes light up as they shared their thoughts and impressions of the new flavors.
This special day not only introduced the children to a new culture but also offered a rich sensory experience, making it a truly valuable and memorable opportunity for cross-cultural learning.
