“What Do You Want to Be Today?” – Growing with IB

Happy New Year from Beyondia International School Meguro!
A brand-new year has begun, and we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our families and community members for your continued support.

In this first blog of the year, we would love to share how IB (International Baccalaureate) learning is woven into the everyday life of our 3–5-year-old classes, and how it helps children grow not only academically, but also as thoughtful, caring individuals.

At Beyondia, we believe that children learn best when they understand who they are becoming. That is why we place great importance on the IB Learner Profile and help children connect these values to their own actions and thinking.

Learner profile - Toddle Learn

On the very first school day of the year, our children began their morning with an IB-focused reflection. During Morning Circle Time, teachers asked a simple but powerful question:

“What do you want to be today?”

This question invites children to think about the kind of person they want to be and how they want to approach their day. It encourages independence, self-awareness, and a positive mindset toward learning.

You might hear children say:

  • “I want to be caring today.”

  • “I want to be a risk-taker today.”

With these intentions in mind, they move through their day with purpose. By revisiting the Learner Profile in these everyday moments, IB learning becomes a natural part of life—something that lives in their choices and behaviors, not just in special lessons.

At the end of the day, during Goodbye Circle Time, we come together for Reflection. Children recall the goal they set in the morning and think about their actions:

“How were you today?”

They share their thoughts in their own words, such as:

  • “I was caring because I shared my toy with my friend.”

  • “I was a risk-taker because I don’t like cauliflower, but I tried it and finished it.”

Through these small, meaningful moments, children learn to look back on their experiences, recognize their efforts, and celebrate their growth. This reflective habit builds a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

At Beyondia International School Meguro, we will continue to treasure each day’s experiences and nurture an IB learning environment where children are empowered to think for themselves, reflect on their actions, and truly feel their own growth. We look forward to another year of learning and discovery together.
