Learning About France: “Merci, Bonjour!”
At BIS Meguro, our children have spent the last three months exploring the rich culture and language of France. This curriculum fosters an appreciation for diversity by introducing students not only to English but also to other languages and cultures, such as learning simple French greetings like “Merci” (thank you) and “Bonjour” (hello).
The children delved into French cuisine and geography, sparking lively discussions about croissants, the Eiffel Tower, and other iconic symbols of France. Their excitement culminated in a highly anticipated “French Christmas Party” on December 21, with parents in attendance to celebrate their hard work and achievements.
– Penguins/Dolphins and Orca 1: Our youngest children from 1 to 3 years old performed cheerful dances to French Christmas songs.
– Orca 2: Our 4-year-olds gave presentations on French cuisine, showcasing what they had researched and learned. They also made posters about the food that they chose, and used clays to make those ones into presents to give to their parents as the Christmas gifts!
– Orca 3: Our 5-year-olds had spent a lot of time and effort to practice their spectacular performance! They staged a theatrical adaptation of the French fable “The Ant and the Grasshopper,” demonstrating their courage and confidence in front of their parents and friends.
The highlight of the party was a surprise visit from Santa Claus, who came bearing gifts from France. The children’s faces lit up as they received their presents and expressed their gratitude with a hearty “Merci!”.
At BIS Meguro, we remain committed to providing opportunities for our students to explore diverse cultures and expand their curiosity and learning.
